The term "conscientização" refers to learning to perceive social, political, and economic contradictions, and to take action against the oppresive elements of reality. Connecting this with teachers, we see how critical they have to be. Teachers have to have in mind all the aspects of the reality they live. Teachers may not change the world but they can inform their students how to be conscious, and teach them how to deal with the system which they are supposed to obey.
